Notes from the Dock
The owners of Gearshed Pickleball come from a long line of commercial fishermen. For more than 60 years, their family has worked the waters from Dutch Harbor, Alaska, to Southern California, harvesting multiple species of fish and carrying on a tradition that continues today through fourth and fifth generation family members.
In the fishing industry, a gearshed is much more than a warehouse. It is the place where fishing gear is stored, repaired, rebuilt, and prepared for the next season. Nets are mended, pots are repaired, hook lines are rebuilt, and plans are made for the work ahead.
But perhaps more importantly, a gearshed has always been a gathering place. It is where crews come together over coffee, share stories from the sea, learn from one another, solve problems, build friendships, and prepare for what comes next. It is a place of hard work, camaraderie, laughter, and community. A place where people with a common passion gather because they enjoy being around others who understand and share that same way of life.
While there won't be any crab pots to climb over or fishing nets hanging from the walls, the spirit of the gearshed remains the same. Gearshed Pickleball was created to be a modern-day gathering place where people come together around a shared passion. It is a place to compete, improve skills, stay active, and enjoy the game of pickleball. More importantly, it is a place to build friendships, welcome new players, reconnect with old friends, and become part of a community. Welcome to Gearshed Pickleball.
